LOG n.10 - It's CHEWSDAY INNIT

3.2. 2026, 19:50 Puerto Mogán, anchor

It’s Tuesday, and here's an update -  It was a lot from the last time - so shortly:

I planned to go to Las Palmas, but I got sick, accidentaly stayed in the most depressive harbour on the Canaries I’ve ever been too, and then went back to Puerto Mogán for my lazybag, which is getting finished now adjustment by adjustment. Maňana. Canarian style. If you know, you know.

Whilst I was in Mogán, I started advertising myself for work. For those who don’t know - I am self-employed in Spain for boat electrics/mechanics, and general repair. I do everything, I climb the masts and dive under the boats. Everything EXCEPT working with fibreglass, paint or any kind of two or more compound liquids that require somewhat of a motoric skill. I can unscrew a nut behind three corners and two brackets with my bare fingers, but paste - no. Nonono. Nah-ah. For every 10 minutes I work with paste, I add 40 extra to the job itself.

So I landed some jobs, and was glad - it keeps me afloat, and so those added to the sum that finally allowed me to get new batteries, because mine were fried. 4 out of 6, to be precise. And I knew that my battery charger (and what a great charger it was) started seeking the light of the afterlife as well. That was from 6 months of being connected to reversed polarity in the marina. How did I find out? When I was redoing the electric system of my neighbour, whos charger kept tripping the fuses out, and who accused me of switching the polarities in his shore power cable that I changed the plug on, and I was like “Excuse me? Haha.” Sherlocked enough with my multimeter to realize, that it was the tower itself, and that I was connected to the same outlet. For half a year. No wonder my charger started buzzing, the transformer was getting kicked in its bottoms for six consecutive months.

Anywho, we got a new battery charger as well, cause I didn’t want to rely on solar for the first cycle of charge on my new batteries. Took all my money and 20hs in total. Out of that 13,5h straight with no break, because I was supposed to leave my berth due to the servicingh of the pontoon I was on, haha. With disconnected batteries, there was not much I could do (yeah, jumpstart the engine, but no thank you) so I worked my ass off, realised I need to change the whole system due to the size of the new AGMs that were 1cm less then I needed. Also realised, that I don’t have big crimps for the cables. So started looking around for that. Then neigbour lent me his hydraulic ones - and they were perfect. I need to get the same ones. So I am adding that to the wish list.

But everything so far seems to be running well, except my analog system, so I might have accidentally disconnected some cable whilst playing in the rats nest. I plan to take a look soon. Anyway, now on anchor outside Mogán waiting for my lazybag to be finished finally, and then, hopefully soon, skedaddle. Before doing any longer crossing, I need to re-seal my deck, and that is a two people job. Luckily, my friend is visiting the Canaries for a long weekend, so we exchanged a berth for work. Little does he know… Nah, he does know. He likes to help. No funny business with him. But I am glad to be doing this. The water ingress from the deck is nowhere near acceptable.

Nathalie out.
